The British premium foods firm, Cranswick plc, has recently announced several new green targets.
The firm has pledged to source 100% of its energy from renewables by March 2017, as well eliminating all food waste from its operations by 2030.
Cranswick launched its green announcements of 2018 in January, when it committed to cutting its plastic packaging use by 50% by 2025.
The pledges are part of the company’s Second Nature sustainability programme.
“We want to be agents of change, addressing key environmental and social issues from farm to fork,” commented Jim Brisby, Commercial Director of Cranswick Group.
“Second Nature is not just a project; it is a movement whereby we fully intend to change the world we operate in,” he added.
“We aim to lead sustainability across agriculture and food production on a global scale by integrating sustainability as second nature to what we do, how we work, and why we do it.”
In order to meet its zero-waste promise, Cranswick will be working with WRAP’s Courtauld 2025 Commitment, and has aligned with Champions 12:3.
“It’s great to see the commitment they are making to reducing food loss and waste in their operations and that they have already taken steps in the right direction,” stated Liz Goodwin, Senior Fellow and Director of Food Loss and Waste at the World Resources Institute.
“We need more organisations to step up like Cranswick in order to achieve the SDGs.”
