In the processing industry, reliable and continued food safety depends greatly on regulations and, more often than not, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA) is in charge of making sure those regulations are enforced and up to date. This month, the FDA announced that it has released a finalized version of “Compliance Policy Guide Sec. 100.250 Food Facility Registration – Human and Animal Food.”

This particular section of the Compliance Policy Guide applies to facilities involved with the manufacturing, processing, packaging and warehousing food for either human or animal consumption. With the Compliance Policy Guide updated, FDA inspectors are better able to make sure that those facilities are in compliance with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act as well as the Food Safety Modernization Act.

In 2013, the FDApublished a draft of the Compliance Policy Guide, asking professionals to provide input on any changes that should be made. According to sources, however, nothing significant was brought forward – only two comments were received, and neither of them recommended any “significant changes” that would require a rewrite of the Compliance Policy Guide as is.
