Every year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognizes manufacturers and businesses that have gone above and beyond in their green initiatives and efforts for more sustainable products and materials. This year, the EPA recognized commercial foodservice equipment brand Manitowoc Foodservice for its outstanding ongoing efforts with the 2014 Energy Star Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award.

First introduced by the EPA in 1992, Energy Star is a voluntary program encouraging the increase of energy efficiency measures and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Energy Star works with consumers and commercial operations to work and live more sustainably; machinery and equipment built to meet the EPA’s efficiency and environmental standards, meanwhile, are able to bear the Energy Star seal of approval.

Manitowoc Foodservice has been partnering with the EPA and producing Energy Star-approved commercial foodservice equipment steadily since 2001, but 2013 was a big year as the company ramped up its Energy Star-approved product portfolio by an impressive 35 percent across its more prominent brands like Convotherm and Frymaster. As of 2013, Manitowoc Foodservice offered 1,254 Energy Star-rated products including commercial fryers, refrigerators, griddles and ovens, ice machines, and more. This major increase in offerings, paired with its constant partnership for over a decade, earned Manitowoc the EPA’s special recognition with its highest award.

Upon receiving this award, Manitowoc noted that their partnership will only continue to grow from here: "Manitowoc Foodservice is honored to receive this award," said Caitlin Rodgers, vice president of marketing, Manitowoc Foodservice. "We are committed to our partnership with ENERGY STAR, and dedicated to increasing energy efficiency in our portfolio of best-in-class commercial foodservice equipment, which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment."
