Usain Bolt is to open 15 restaurants in the UK following a deal with Jamaican franchise company Franjam. The Olympic gold-medallist sprinter already has two Tracks & Records restaurants in Kingston and St Ann, Jamaica and now plans to open a further 15 in the UK over the next five years, following his recent retirement from athletics.

Tracks & Records, which will offer a takeaway service as well as dining, will receive funding from SME group, a private holding company based in Middlesex that focusses on fast food and hotel franchises.

The T&R menu will feature the eight-time Olympic champion’s signature ‘burgers à la Usain’ as well as the more traditional Jamaican food such as jerk pork, curried mutton and pan chicken. Desserts include a warm rum cake and Guinness cookie cheesecake.

The Tracks & Records chain is also appealing to prospective franchisees eager to take on ownership of a restaurant.

Bolt, the man who famously claimed to have eaten chicken nuggets prior to races, is reputed to have earned $34.2mn from his career as an Olympian.
