San Francisco-based Tapingo is a food ordering platform that caters for students at 150 college campuses across the US.
The startup processes tens of thousands transactions a day for more than half a million active diners at on-campus cafes, restaurants, and cashier-less stores.
Chicago-based Grubhub said that the acquisition will help campus restaurants capitalise on pickup and delivery orders.

"Tapingo makes students' lives easier, allows merchants to efficiently capitalize on online ordering, and enables colleges and universities to give students the technology they've come to expect."

In August, Grubhub also reported that it had acquired LevelUp — a mobile payments and loyalty rewards program platform — for $390 million in cash.
