The logistics sector is growing. According to a new report, the trucking industry added 1,500 new jobs to the United States workforce in May 2014 alone.

According to an economic report from Heavy Duty Trucking, the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there are currently 1.4 million workers employed specifically by the trucking sector. What’s more, 217,000 jobs were added to the workforce in May 2014 and 1,500 of those came from the trucking sector.

1,500 is part of a bigger picture of steady growth in an industry that suffered during the Recession – the report indicates that the 1.4 million employee statistic is a 1.6 percent or 22,400 job improvement compared to the industry at the same time last year. It’s also a 13.6 percent, or 175,900 job, improvement over the industry during its lowest point after the Recession.

Jobs still haven’t bounced back quite to the level they were prior to the Recession – according to the report, the trucking sector is still more than fifty thousand jobs behind its pre-Recession numbers. But if this kind of growth continues, reaching that employment goal again is a strong possibility.
