Through the investment, the revamped restaurants will feature modernized dining rooms, digital self-order kiosks, remodelled counters, digital menu boards, new designated parking spots for curbside pick-up and expanded McCafé counters.
Among the announcements are a $390mn to remodel more than 550 California restaurants; $448mn for 840 restaurants in Texas; $317mn for 410 restaurants in Illinois; and $320mn for 360 restaurants in New York.
The investments are set to take place in 2018 and 2018.
The news is the latest effort of the fast food chain’s 'Experience of the Future' programme that it announced in 2016.
The initiative hopes to provide a modern dining experience to customers using digitisation and renovations.
In its second-quarter report, the American firm said that sales grew 2.6% at US locations that have been opened at least a year.
Speaking of the results, McDonald's President and CEO Steve Easterbrook said: "We're seeing good performance across our business as our customers tell us that they value and appreciate the moves we're making to elevate the McDonald's experience.”
